Concept Description
Floor Coverings International is a home improvement franchise that focuses on custom residential flooring and window treatments, delivered through a mobile showroom and local design studio model. Instead of a traditional retail store, franchisees bring thousands of samples right to the customer’s home or light commercial space, helping clients see options in their own lighting and décor. This in‑home design consultation approach is positioned around convenience, personalization, and professional project management from selection through installation.
The brand operates within a large and growing flooring industry, with a concept built to “bring the flooring store to your door” and simplify an otherwise complex purchase process. Franchisees focus on selling and coordinating installation of both hard and soft surface products, along with window treatments, in residential dwellings and certain light commercial applications within their Designated Market Area (DMA). The company also maintains programs for larger commercial and national account work that qualified franchisees may participate in under specific addenda and training.
As part of FirstService’s family of home services brands, Floor Coverings International benefits from a leadership team with deep franchise experience and a mature operating system. The franchisor provides a defined business format covering marketing, sales process, operations, product sourcing, and financial administration, all delivered through detailed operating standards and an exclusive set of trademarks and service marks. Franchisees receive a protected DMA for residential services, along with access to brand‑driven marketing and the ability to expand into additional territories through an option program for qualified owners.
Training and support are central to the offering. New owners go through structured pre‑training, multiple in‑person sessions at the Atlanta headquarters, field training calls, and ongoing marketing and sales support designed to extend through the first two years in business. The franchisor assists with onboarding, including mobile showroom setup and office selection, while continuing to provide resources in sales leadership, competitiveness tools, and financial management as the business scales. This creates an environment where owners can concentrate on building a team and driving local market penetration while leveraging the franchisor’s systems and national branding.
For investors, Floor Coverings International offers a service‑based, largely home‑based model that does not rely on a high‑traffic retail storefront. The concept can be scaled by adding additional design associates, mobile showrooms, and territories, and there is a defined framework for multi‑territory development for those who meet performance criteria. While specific financial results must be evaluated through the FDD and direct conversations with franchisees, the model is built around repeat demand for home improvement projects and the value of flooring updates in the home.
