Concept Description

There are more than 12,000 drownings each year in the US and 4,000 of them are fatal! Hudson Valley Swim is a swim lesson program was developed using techniques from industry affiliations such as the American Red Cross, USA Swimming, and the US Swim School Association, along with in-house methods from various affiliations such as the American Red Cross, USA Swimming, the US Swim School Association, mixed with techniques that we developed with our in-house experts.

Franchisees do NOT have to have an aquatics background to run a successful swim school. The program emphasizes operational efficiency, social media outreach, customer service, and instructor training. A good businessperson who can wear many hats, is willing to work hard and be attentive to their customers can excel in this business. And the best part if the owner can start out part-time without a large investment and scale their time as the business grows.

Franchisees without an aquatics background may participate in the program.

History:

Hudson Valley Swim was an idea incubated in our own backyard pool when our children were young. We had a very talented swim instructor come to our pool for swim lessons and we started discussing turning this into a business. In 2003 we launched our swim school under a different name and then in 2011, we became Hudson Valley Swim.

We have taught lessons at various facilities over time and in 2006 we settled at our main location in Newburgh, NY. Since then we have expanded to locations in Middletown, NY, Hopewell Junction, NY and in 2023 added Port Chester, NY, New Rochelle, NY, Monticello, NY and Seminole, FL to our corporate portfolio. Collectively we teach about 5000 students annually. In 2022, we decided to take our premium program national via a franchise offering.

There are 4 pillars of our business that allow us to stand out from other programs.

  1. Our class sizes are small. Each student gets a personalized learning experience.
  2. Our program is unique. It was developed using best-practices from various swimming organizations and customized via with our own techniques.
  3. Senior teachers of swimming. Lots of people can hold swim lessons but not everyone is a teacher. We promote hiring of teaching skills + aquatics experience.
  4. Customer service. The lost art that consumers are getting used to. We promote and measure outstanding service to our customers. This provides repeat business and referrals.

Operational and Marketing Tools:

Hudson Valley Swim has spent a lot of time initially building out the infrastructure that would prepare us for expansion. We have established a national contract with a very large fitness chain, built master insurance policies, and partnered with marketing agencies, bookkeepers, and payroll companies to support and offer discounted rates to our franchisees. Before awarding territories, we ensure that the owners will have a rental facility to operate out of.

The Hudson Valley Swim business training incudes hiring and identifying instructors, aquatics and office training, lead generation, ordering office and pool supplies, learning the registration system, financial operation, and business operations training.

During the onboarding process the Hudson Valley Swim team assists with identifying and hiring the Lead Swim Instructor. The Lead Instructor will come to the corporate facility and train with our Aquatics Director to learn our program. Owners will have access to our CRM system to make sure all tasks are being completed on time.

Owners are encouraged to do their own physical marketing, but the marketing consultants will handle creating a digital footprint. on system. From forming accounts to content creation to monitoring SEO, our marketing consulting firm are experts at building digital awareness. Digital marketing is just one component to our 4 components of marketing, which also include: off-site, on-site, and referral marketing’s.

Initially, we will order both the equipment and marketing package for our owners. Overtime, they will have access to our CRM system, which includes vendors that they are able to order supplies as needed.

It is not complicated to learn the basics of the registration system, however, there are some more complex tasks. Our initial training on this will cover everything that owners will need to be attentive to. Since, they have an account manager through the registration system company, owners have access to the on-going support they offer as well as the support we offer.

Our support system allows for owners to communicate with each other to collaborate on best practices. We do monthly all-company meetings and weekly calls with owners for the first 4-6 months (up to them).
